Eladio Acosta Arteaga

Eladio Acosta Arteaga CIM (born April 9, 1916 in La América ; † January 30, 2012 in Medellín ) was a Colombian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe de Antioquía .

Life

Eladio Acosta Arteaga joined the religious community of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary after attending schools in Belén and La América in Medellín as well as Juniorato de San Pedro and studied Catholic theology and philosophy as well as canon law at the Pontifical University in the "Seminarios Eudistas de San Pedro y Usaquén" Xaveriana in Bogotá. He was ordained a priest on August 7, 1949 . During his priestly ministry he also held various management positions in the seminaries of his order. For many years he was rector of the seminary "Santo Tomás de Aquino" of the diocese of Santa Rosa de Osos and rector of the "Seminarios Regentados" of his order. He was also Superior and Provincial of the Congregation of Jesus and Mary in Colombia.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 6, 1970 Bishop of Antioquia . The Archbishop of San Antonio Angelo Palmas consecrated him on April 12 of the same year as bishop; Co- consecrators were Tulio Botero Salazar CM , Archbishop of Medellín , and Aníbal Muñoz Duque , Coadjutor Archbishop of Bogotá . After Pope John Paul II raised the diocese to the archbishopric of Santa Fe de Antioquia , he became the first archbishop of Santa Fe de Antioquia .

On October 10, 1992, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
