The Archdiocese of Santa Fe de Antioquia ( lat. : Archidioecesis Sanctae Fidei de Antioquia , span. : Arquidiócesis de Santa Fe de Antioquia ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Santa Fe de Antioquia .
history
The Archdiocese of Santa Fe de Antioquia was established on August 31, 1804 by Pope Pius VII from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of Santafé en Nueva Granada and the dioceses of Cartagena and Popayán as the Diocese of Antioquía . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Santafé en Nueva Granada as a suffragan . On February 14, 1868, the diocese of Antioquía gave up parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Medellín . The diocese of Antioquía was subordinated to the new Archdiocese of Medellín on February 24, 1902 as a suffragan. Further assignments of territory took place on April 28, 1908 to found the Apostolic Prefecture of Chocó and on February 5, 1917 to found the diocese of Santa Rosa de Osos .
On February 5, 1917, the Diocese of Antioquía, the Diocese of Jericó was attached. The diocese of Antioquía-Jericó was divided back into the dioceses of Antioquía and Jericó on July 3, 1941. On November 14, 1952, the diocese of Antioquía gave up parts of its territory to found the Vicariate Apostolic Quibdó . Another assignment of territory took place on June 18, 1988 to establish the Apartadó diocese .
On June 18, 1988, the diocese of Antioquía was raised to an archdiocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Spiritali sane and renamed the Archdiocese of Santa Fe de Antioquia .
