Elisabeth Tavernier

Elisabeth Tavernier (born June 24, 1946 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) is a French costume designer .

Life

Elisabeth Tavernier worked as a stylist for Claude Miller's film drama Süßer Wahn as early as 1977 . Since the early 1980s she has been working regularly as a costume designer for French film. The melodrama The Walker from Sans-Souci (1982) with Romy Schneider in the lead role was the first cinema production for which Tavernier created the costumes. In 1986, together with designer Christian Dior , she received her first nomination for César in the Best Costumes category for the thriller Bras de fer . For the comedy film Life is a long, calm flow of directorÉtienne Chatiliez received another César nomination three years later. In the 1990s she worked with Wild Hearts (1994), Diebe der Nacht (1996) and Alice & Martin (1998) three times, directed by André Téchiné . Tavernier designed several film robes for Catherine Deneuve , besides Thieves of the Night also for Genealogies of a Crime (1997) and Place Vendôme (1998). Tavernier was also responsible for the costumes for the US comedy Woman on Top (2000) with Penélope Cruz in the lead role. Director Claude Chabrol engaged them in the same year for his detective film Sweet Poison .
