occupation

Betty Blue - 37.2 degrees in the morning (original title: 37.2 ° C le matin) is a French fiction film by the director Jean-Jacques Seele from 1986 . The film, based on the novel of the same name by Philippe Djian, paints the picture of a disturbing love affair. In 1986, however, due to its length, it was only released in a version that was a third shorter. In 1991 the director presented a directors cut that was 63 minutes longer than the theatrical version, was re-dubbed in full length in 2003 (German, Italian, Spanish, Hungarian) and was first released on DVD in 2004.

action

Beinix 'film depicts the obsessive love of the young couple Betty and Zorg . The film is divided into several “chapters” in which Zorg is looking for a place in France for herself and Betty, where they keep trying to live and work. Her odyssey ranges from the caretaker of a holiday village in Gruissan-Plage to work in a pizzeria to the manager of a piano shop in rural Marvejols , while Zorg tries to find a home for herself and Betty and start writing again. However, it is the final months of Betty, a young woman suffering from borderline personality disorder . Her distress finally culminates when she learns that, contrary to expectations, she is not pregnant. After self-mutilation in the form of an auto-enucleation , Betty falls into an agony-like coma . Zorg sees no way out and no future for her and suffocates Betty with a pillow.

The plot of the film is described from Zorg's point of view and often commented off-screen. Linked by loneliness, a bleak existence and a strong sexual attraction, Betty and Zorg create a world in which only the two of them have a place. Other figures appear only marginally. The focus is on the two main characters and their attempt to escape their own desolation with the help of the other.

With 37.2 degrees in the morning, the title alludes to increased body temperature as a possible sign of pregnancy.

synchronization

The German-language original version was created in the studios of Berliner Synchron GmbH Wenzel Lüdecke, Berlin under the dubbing direction of Joachim Kunzendorf based on the dialogue book, also by Kunzendorf. The film was completely re-dubbed for the Directors Cut. Reviews

“Love drama prepared with little substance, partly cheerful, partly dark-dramatic and playful-erotic staged. [...] superficial and irrelevant. "

“After his cult film ' Diva ' (1981) and the flop 'The Moon in the Gutter' (1983), director beinix made a comeback with this drama. Rightly so, because form and content fit together here: beinix 'typical, artificial aestheticization of the pictures stands for the sensuality and the style will of his unrealistic heroes. In addition, Jean-Hugues Anglade (' Die Bartholomäusnacht ') and Béatrice Dalle, who became an erotic icon after this cinema debut, proved to be a lucky cast. - Conclusion: Intoxicating staged noble drama. "

Awards

With the award of the British Academy Film Awards , Golden Globe Awards and Oscars was Betty Blue each nominated for best foreign language film, while at that category it the price of the Boston Society of Film Critics awarded. The film was nominated for nine Césars in 1987 : Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor (Gérard Darmon), Best Supporting Actress (Clémentine Célarié), Best Music (Gabriel Yared), Best Editing (Monique Prim) and he received the trophy for the best movie poster.
