Elkhorn is a city and county seat of Walworth County in the southeast of the US -amerikanischen state of Wisconsin . In 2010 Elkhorn had 10,084 inhabitants.

Elkhorn lies at 42 ° 40 'north latitude and 88 ° 32' west longitude, extends over 19.0 km² at an altitude of 311 meters above sea level.
Interstate 43 and US Highway 12 intersect on the outskirts of the city . Wisconsin Highways 11 and 67 run through town .
The city is connected to the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad network. The stretch to Burlington has been closed and is used as the White River State Trail .
The Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport is situated 65 kilometers northeast of the city.
The nearest major cities are Milwaukee (approx. 65 km northeast), Rockford (approx. 70 km southwest), Madison , the capital of the state (approx. 95 km northwest) and Chicago (approx. 120 km southeast).

At the beginning of the 19th century, Colonel Samuel Phoenix saw the shed antlers of a wapiti ("Elk") hanging in a tree and called the area of this find since the "Elk Horn".
The fertile soil and the beautiful area contributed to the fact that more and more people settled there over time. As early as 1846, at the first community meeting, there were over 500 residents. Because of its central location, Elkhorn became the administrative seat of Walworth County in the same year.
