Mukwonago is a village in Waukesha County and a small part in Walworth County in the southeast of the US -amerikanischen state of Wisconsin . In 2000 Mukwonago had 6,868 inhabitants.

Mukwonago Village has a size of 12.5 km² (4.8 mi²). Of this, 12.1 km² (4.7 mi²) are land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) are water. Surrounding places include West Bend or New Berlin, Muskego in the northwest and East Troy to the southwest. Mukwonago is located directly on the Fox River, which flows into Phantom Lake. Mukwonago also has its own exit off Interstate 43 Milwaukee-Beloit.

history
Mukwonago goes back to Indian origins. The Potowatomi Indians from the Bear Clan had their seat here. Mukwonago was then initially called Mequanego, ie the place where the bear is ("Place of the bear"). Over time, Mequanego was renamed Mukwonago. In 1844 the name Mukwonago was officially adopted.
