East Troy is located in southeastern Wisconsin on both sides of Honey Creek , which is part of the Mississippi basin over the Fox and Illinois Rivers .

Attractions
The community is best known for the Alpine Valley ski area, the Alpine Valley Music Theater , where large concerts regularly take place, and the East Troy Electric Railroad Museum . After a concert with Eric Clapton at the Alpine Valley Music Theater, guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan died on August 26, 1990 in a helicopter crash in East Troy.

The Interstate 43 leads in northeast-southwest direction on its way from Milwaukee to Rockford at the center of East Troy over. This is where Wisconsin State Routes 20 and 120 meet. All other roads are subordinate country roads, some unpaved roads and inner-city connecting roads.
East Troy is the southwestern terminus of a freight railway line for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR), which leads to Mukwonago.
