Alpine Valley Music Theater
The Alpine Valley Music Theater is an open-air stage in East Troy , Wisconsin , USA. The facility, which was built in 1977, has space for 40,000 spectators. In the center there is a pavilion with a characteristic wooden roof with 9,500 seats, the rest of the area is overgrown with lawn.
The stage is about the same distance from Madison , Milwaukee and Chicago and therefore has a fairly large catchment area . The Alpine Valley Music Theater was the largest open-air theater in the United States until 1993, but was then replaced by the newly built San Manuel Amphitheater in California.

Famous artist
Many famous artists have performed since the Alpine Valley Music Theater was built. Boz Scaggs topped the list of artists who performed at the opening on June 30, 1977. The Black Crowes shot their music video Hard to Handle here . Between 1980 and 1989 the Grateful Dead performed twenty times at the Alpine Valley Music Theater, no band played in the arena more often. Her live album Dick's Picks Volume 32 was recorded here in 1982 and the live video Downhill From Here documents her concerts from 1989. Phish played eight times in the Alpine Valley between 1996 and 2004.
A special event was the opening of the Use Your Illusion Tour by the band Guns N 'Roses on May 24, 1991. The tour was to last 28 months. Mötley Crüe made their video for Same Ol 'Situation during an Alpine Valley concert in 1990.
From August 6 to 9, 1987, Boston played four appearances in the Alpine Valley as part of their comeback third stage tour .
The Ozzfest Tour regularly stops here and the CD Ozzfest 2001: The Second Millennium was compiled from performances at the Alpine Valley Music Theater.
The band Aerosmith has played here twelve times since 1977, opening the Done with Mirrors tour on August 23, 1985 . With the exception of 2005, Jimmy Buffett has played once a year in Alpine Valley since 1995.
Big names like Dave Matthews Band , who also recorded a live album here, Pearl Jam , Rush and Phish have named the Alpine Valley Music Theater one of their favorite venues. Dave Matthews said during a concert on September 1, 2002:
"Thank you for always being so good to us up here at Alpine. It really is our favorite place to play ". Translated: “Thank you for always being so good to us here at the Alpine. It really is our favorite place to perform "."
The British band Coldplay played their biggest concert of all time on American soil in the summer of 2005 in front of a completely sold out house. Major concerts in recent years have also included appearances by Korn (2006), Rage Against the Machine with Queens of the Stone Age in 2007 and Jack Johnson in 2008.
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Stevie Ray Vaughan has a chapter of its own in the history of the Alpine Valley . On August 26, 1990, he and his band Double Trouble played a concert with the blues greats Robert Cray , Buddy Guy , Eric Clapton and his older brother Jimmie Vaughan . After the concert, Vaughan left the area in the helicopter, which a little later hit a nearby ski hill. All five occupants were killed in the crash. Jimmie Vaughan dedicated the blues title Six Strings Down to his late brother and created a literary monument to him. The text makes direct reference to the disaster and mentions a number of important blues musicians such as Albert Collins , Muddy Waters , Albert King , Freddie King or T-Bone Walker .

The Alpine Valley Music Theater is owned by Live Nation . It is part of a recreational area with a hotel that offers over a hundred rooms in Bavarian style, as well as a ski hill and a golf course.
