Live and act

Elli Graetz was born in Berlin as the daughter of Bruno Fuhrmann and Louise Vitzthum, both of whom were in the resistance against National Socialism. After graduating from high school in Hennigsdorf, she completed an internship in the theater workshops of the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin. From 1968 to 1969 she studied theater painting in Dresden , then worked in various professions before she began studying graphics at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art in 1971 and graduated in 1976 with a diploma. She studied with Professors Arno Mohr , Werner Klemke , Klaus Wittkugel and Axel Bertram .

Elli Graetz has been working as a freelancer since 1976. She began as a graphic designer, illustrator and poster designer on behalf of various Berlin publishers, Progress Filmverleihs and German TV broadcaster. Since 1990, free graphics has been the main focus of her work, preferring printing techniques such as woodcut, screen printing, lithography and etching. But she also creates installations and objects. Part of her work is helping to create artist books and portfolios.

Elli Graetz lives and works in Berlin and Brandenburg and is married to the photographer Jürgen Graetz.
