Ernst Fritz Alfred Particle (born October 7, 1888 in Goldap , East Prussia ; † ( lost ) October 20, 1945 in Ahrenshoop ) was a German landscape painter.

Life

Alfred Particle was born in 1888 as the son of Goldaper District Court Secretary Adolf Particle (1857–1945). After attending primary school in Szittkehmen and grammar school in Insterburg , he spent six months in 1905 at the arts and crafts school in Königsberg i. Pr. In 1905 joined particles to the Art Academy Konigsberg , which he held until 1907 when Ludwig Dettmann , Olof Jernberg and Heinrich Wolff visited. He then worked as a freelance painter and pursued further studies in Munich , Weimar and Berlin (1911). He was a member of the Free Secession and the German Association of Artists .

From 1914 to 1918, Particle was a soldier in the First World War . From 1919 to 1921 he shared a studio with the sculptor Richard Scheibe in Berlin and had first encounters with Gerhard Marcks . In 1921 he married Anna Dorothea Körte (1892–1967), the daughter of Major a. D. and musicologist Oswald Körte , who had owned a house in Ahrenshoop on the Baltic Sea since 1904. From 1921, Particle also had his residence and a studio here.

In 1929 he was appointed professor for the landscape class at the Königsberg Art Academy. With his students he went on study trips through East Prussia . With him u. a. Ingrid Andersson and Ulrich Knispel (1911–1978). In 1930/1931 he was a guest of the Villa Massimo in Rome alongside Werner Gilles on a scholarship . After the academy closed, he taught landscape painting from 1933 to 1944 at the State Masters' Ateliers for Fine Arts in Königsberg, the successor institution to the art academy. In 1937 several of his works were exhibited as Degenerate Art in Munich.

In February 1945 he and Eduard Bischoff fled East Prussia to Ahrenshoop by bike. There he disappeared on October 20th looking for mushrooms. His body was never found.

Alfred Particle was one of the most important actors in the East Prussian landscape, especially the Masurian hilly landscape south of his hometown Goldap. His works of art hang, among others, in the Art Forum Ostdeutsche Galerie in Regensburg , in the Museum Stadt Königsberg in Duisburg and in the Kunsthalle Mannheim . His works can also be found in the Rostock Cultural History Museum and the Ahrenshoop Art Museum . In 1949 the Kunsthalle Bremen showed a memorial exhibition for Alfred Particle. Another exhibition took place in 1988 on his 100th birthday in the Kunstforum Ostdeutsche Galerie in Regensburg.
