Ellie Lambeti ( Greek Έλλη Λαμπέτη Elli Lambeti ; born April 13, 1926 in Vilia as Elli Loukou, Greek Έλλη Λούκου ; † September 3, 1983 in New York City ) was a Greek actress .

family

Lambeti was born in 1926 in the village of Vilia in the Greek region of Attica, the daughter of Kostas Loukos and Anastasia Stamati. She had six siblings. Her maternal grandfather had fought as a captain with Theodores Kolokotronis against the Turks in 1821 . The family moved to Athens in 1928 .

Career

In 1941 Lambeti applied to two theater schools, but was rejected by both. One of the two schools was privately run by the actress Marika Kotopouli . She recognized Lambeti's talent and hired her.

At the beginning of her career as a leading actress, she had her last name changed to Lambeti. In 1945 she met her future husband, Marios Ploritis, while filming the film Adouloti sklavi (Αδούλωτοι σκλάβοι, 1946).

In 1946 she played under the direction of the theater director Karolos Koun . She was the leading actress in the production of the following pieces:

In August 1950 she married Marios Ploritis, but their marriage fell apart in 1952 after Lambeti had an affair with Dimitris Horn . Together with Horn she produced and played various plays. In 1959 she met the American writer Frederic Wakeman, whom she married in the same year. Lambeti's second marriage ended in divorce in 1976.

In addition to her employment in film, she also continued her theater career, playing The Heiress in 1962 and Blanche in Endstation Sehnsucht in 1965 .

Last years

The following years were marked by her fight against cancer . She successfully played in theatrical productions such as Hello, Dolly! (1980) by Thornton Wilder and in God's Forgotten Children (1981) by Mark Medoff , but their health was poor. She died of throat cancer in New York City in 1983 at the age of 57 . She was buried in the First Athens Cemetery.
