The Elsbach is an orographic right tributary of the Steinbach almost two kilometers long in the Rhineland-Palatinate districts of Donnersberg and Kaiserslautern .

The Elsbach rises in the Untere Lauterhöhen natural area of the North Palatinate Uplands at an altitude of 349 m above sea level. NHN in a meadow in the territory of the municipality Rockhausen belonging municipality souls at the southwest foot of the municipality Berg ( 436.1 m ) and just over a kilometers northeast of the municipality Otterbach Otter Mountain belong to local community Niederkirchen . Its source is in the Seelinger Tal corridor, right on the border between the Donnersbergkreis and the Kaiserslautern district.
After a few meters, the stream crosses the district boundary and then, accompanied by strong vegetation, some of which consists of orchards, flows a good 700 meters southwards through a strip of grassland at the eastern foot of the Ölsberg ( 409.5 m ). To the east of its course is a biotope with poor meadows and small trees. It is then fed by the small horn trench on its left side . The Elsbach then runs south-west through the grassland Flur Elsbacher Wiesen, lined with very dense wood .
To the southeast of the Niederkirchen weekend house settlement, the stream turns south and runs along the eastern edge of the village at a distance of about sixty meters. At the corner of the street Am Steinhügel / Herdter Straße , the brook disappears piped into the underground and then reappears on the surface south of Kreisstraße 31 ( Heimkircher Straße ). Shortly afterwards it finally flows into the Steinbach coming from the east-southeast at an altitude of 264 m from the right .

The Elsbach has a catchment area of 1,874 km² and drains through the Steinbach, Odenbach , Glan , Nahe and Rhine into the North Sea . The difference in altitude from its source to its mouth is 85 m, which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 49.4.0 ‰ for a run length of 1.72 km.
