Emil Kostadinow ( Bulgarian Емил Костадинов , English transcription: Emil Kostadinov ; born August 12, 1967 in Sofia ) is a former Bulgarian football player .
Career
societies
Kostadinow began his professional career in 1984 at CSKA Sofia and formed together with Lyuboslaw Penew and Christo Stoitschkow in the late 1980s a successful attack series of the club, to which he belonged until 1990.
After the fall of the " Iron Curtain " Kostadinow moved to FC Porto , for which he was active for four years. This was followed by a brief stint at Deportivo La Coruña .
During the winter break of the 1994/95 season Kostadinow was signed by Bayern Munich . He made his Bundesliga debut on February 18, 1995 (18th matchday) against VfL Bochum , where he also scored his first goal (to 1-0 in the 37th minute - final score 2-1 for FC Bayern Munich) scored. He played his last competitive game in the Bundesliga on matchday 34 of the following season (May 18, 1996) in the home game against Fortuna Düsseldorf (2-2). In 27 league games for Bayern, he was substituted 13 times and nine times; with a total of seven goals, he scored twice in two games (31st and 32nd matchday) in a row in 1996. With four appearances and one goal (against Girondins Bordeaux ) he contributed to the UEFA Cup victory of his team; this was his greatest international success.
In the 1996/97 season, he spent a year at Fenerbahçe Istanbul before returning to CSKA Sofia. In 1998/99 he played in Mexico for UANL Tigres and in 1999/2000 again in Germany for 1. FSV Mainz 05 , where he played with Jürgen Klopp , among others . On November 7, 1999 (11th matchday) - in the 65th minute for Sven Demandt - he made his last appearance in the 0-0 away game at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen ; then he ended his active career.
National team
Kostadinov played 70 international matches for the Bulgarian senior team , for which he scored 26 goals. He was one of the top performers during the 1994 World Cup in the USA, when Bulgaria sensationally advanced to the semi-finals , leaving Mexico behind in the last sixteen and Germany in the quarter-finals . He also took part in the 1996 European Championship (two games in the preliminary round) and the 1998 World Championship (three games, one goal in the preliminary round).
