Engelbert von Kerckerinck zur Borg

Engelbert Freiherr von Kerckerinck zur Borg (born October 3, 1872 in Sonderhaus near Ahaus ; † February 25, 1933 in Haus Hohenfeld near Münster ) was a German manor owner , a politician of the Center Party and an agricultural representative.

Life

He was the son of Freiherr Maximilian von Kerckerinck zur Borg (1829-1905) and his wife Theresia (née von Fürstenberg) (1841-1917).

Kerckerinck zur Borg studied law and was a trainee lawyer in Dülmen and Münster. Later he concentrated on the administration of his manor.

In 1901 he married Magdalena von Galen . From the marriage went Maximilian Freiherr von Kerckerinck to Borg forth.

Politically, he belonged to the Center Party. Kerckerinck zur Borg had mandates in the district assembly, the Westphalian provincial assembly and the Reichstag . He belonged to this between 1912 and 1918 for the constituency of Minden 5 ( Höxter - Warburg ).

Kerckerinck zur Borg was particularly active as a representative of agricultural interests. He was chairman of the Westphalian farmers' association , deputy chairman of the Westphalian Chamber of Agriculture and the supervisory board of the Westphalian Central Cooperative. From 1916 to 1928 Kerckerinck zur Borg was chairman of the Association of German Farmers 'Associations , an association of Catholic farmers' associations. He was also chairman and co-founder of the Westphalian Homeland Federation .

During the Weimar Republic , Kerckerinck zur Borg belonged to the extreme right wing of the Center Party in Westphalia and criticized the party's policy as too left and accused it of neglecting its agrarian interests. In contrast to the Rhenish agricultural wing of the party, Kerckerinck zur Borg maintained the connection between his farmers' association and the Center Party. Ferdinand Freiherr von Lüninck protested against this course and advocated an agrarian conservative front. In addition to the farmers 'association, the Westphalian farmers' union was formed as an organization for small farmers. Thereupon he resigned as chairman of the Westphalian farmers' association in 1927.

In addition to political and economic writings, Kerckerinck zur Borg also published works of art history and contributions to the history of Westphalia. Together with Richard Klapheck , he shaped Alt-Westphalia in the joint plant . The building development in Westphalia since the Renaissance of 1912 used the term Weser Renaissance for the architecture along the Weser in the 16th and 17th centuries with its richly decorated gables and its subsidiary form, the Lipper Renaissance . In 1904 he became patron of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . From 1914 he was a committee member of the commission.

A part of the family library is part of the University and State Library of Münster as a closed collection .
