from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Enoch Svantenius (* 1576 in Malchin ; † September 2, 1624 in Güstrow ) was a German Lutheran clergyman.

Life

Enoch Svantenius was the son of the notary Georg Schwandt in Malchin. He studied theology at the University of Strasbourg, where he completed his studies with a master's degree. He then accompanied young nobles on their Grand Tour through Italy. He returned from Italy as a graduate to Rostock and Wittenberg , where he was appointed vice-principal at the Princely School in the former Bordesholm monastery , where he was soon promoted to rector and preacher at the church there. In 1610 he left Schleswig-Holstein because of intrigues and differences of opinion with the court preachers at the Gottorf court and returned to Mecklenburg . He drew the ducal house in Mecklenburg's attention to himself through a speech in Rostock. On the recommendation of the widowed Duchess Sophia von Mecklenburg, he received a pastor's position at the parish church in Güstrow in 1612 , which he held until his death.

The theologian Enoch Svantenius (the elder) was his son.
