Enrico Zaina (born September 27, 1967 in Brescia , Lombardy ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Athletic career

After winning the Trofeo Franco Balestra and the Giro della Valle d'Aosta among the amateurs , he joined the Carrera Jeans team in 1989 .

Due to his climbing skills, he has celebrated his greatest successes in mountain stages or mountain finishes in stage races . He celebrated his greatest success at the Giro d'Italia in 1996 , where he finished the 9th stage and the 20th stage as the first. With the victory on the 20th stage and a time advantage on the last stage over Abraham Olano , who was the overall leader up to the 20th stage, he secured second place behind Pavel Tonkow and ahead of Abraham Olano. He was able to celebrate further successes with a stage win at the Vuelta a España in 1992 and fourth overall at the Vuelta a España in 1997 . After moving to Marco Pantani's team Mercatone Uno , he achieved his last victory on the third stage of the Settimana Ciclistica Lombarda in 1999. Following the 2000 season, he ended his road career.
