Epping is a suburb of Sydney in Australia , 18 km northwest of downtown Sydney. It belongs to the Local Government Areas Ryde City , Parramatta City and Hornsby Shire and the northern suburbs of Sydney.
history
The Wallumedegal Aboriginal tribe lived in the area between the Lane Cove River and the Parramatta River .
In 1792, Governor Phillip began distributing land to members of the British Navy. The area was named Field of Mars on Phillips' maps (Mars is the Roman god of war). It included the lands of what is now Epping, Ryde, and Marsfield .
Epping train station was originally called the Field of Mars and later Carlingford . The first post office was in East Carlingford. In 1899, the suburb was renamed Epping after the proposal of landowner William Midson (1849-1924). Midson's father was born in Epping, Essex , England .
economy
Epping has a small shopping center near the train station. Further trade and industry are also in the area.
The Epping RSL Club is a popular meeting place that attracts many guests, including students from the nearby Macquarie University . The '' Epping Hotel '' also has a bar with its own night club.
Until 2009, some television studios of the station Seven Network were located in Epping .
traffic
The station Epping is located on the Northern Line of the CityRail Sydney. The Epping – Chatswood railway line, which has been in full operation since 2009, also starts at Epping Station. In the second stage, this line was to be extended to Parramatta , but this project was initially postponed for an indefinite period.
Epping is also well connected to the Sydney city bus network and the Hillsbus network. The M2 Hills Motorway runs on the north side of Epping to Sydney city center. Epping Road, a major major road, runs east from the station to the Pacific Highway .

According to the 2016 census, Epping has 23,688 inhabitants, of which 49.4% are male and 50.6% are female. Approx. 41.4% of Epping's residents were born in Australia. The largest group of immigrants is China (18.9%), followed by South Korea (7.4%), and India (6.0%).
Epping is known as an up-and-coming community, which can also be seen in the higher land prices compared to its neighboring communities. The proportion of employed people in Epping is almost twice as high as in Sydney.

Maureen Nyholm (nee Richardson) - nurse and wife of Sir Ronald Sydney Nyholm from Broken Hill was born here.

Epping is split into three LGAs: Hornsby Shire , Parramatta City and (for the smallest part) Ryde City .
In the parliamentary elections for the state of New South Wales, Epping forms its own constituency, in the elections to the Australian federal parliament, the suburb is part of the constituency of Bennelong .
