Erdmann August von Brandenburg-Bayreuth (born October 8, 1615 in Bayreuth , † February 6, 1651 in Hof ) was Hereditary Prince of Brandenburg-Bayreuth .

Life

Erdmann August was a son of the Bayreuth Margrave Christian (1581–1655) from his marriage to Marie (1579–1649), daughter of Duke Albrecht Friedrich of Prussia . His two older brothers Georg Friedrich and Christian Ernst had died as children. A tense relationship developed with his father and his younger brother Georg Albrecht .

Erdmann August married his cousin Sophie von Brandenburg-Ansbach (1614–1646), daughter of Margrave Joachim Ernst von Brandenburg-Ansbach and Countess Sophie , on December 8, 1641 in Ansbach . After her death he got engaged to Princess Sophie Agnes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin .

After receiving the offices of Lauenstein , Lichtenberg and Thierbach from his father in 1647 , he set up his own court at Lauenstein Castle . A year later there was a pistol duel with his brother at his father's court on the Plassenburg , which both survived unharmed. Erdmann August then retired completely to Lauenstein Castle and finally to Hof Castle.

During the preparations for his wedding, Erdmann August died at the age of 35 in front of his father of a "chest fever". He was buried in the Bayreuth city church.
