The Río Eresma is an approximately 134 kilometers long right tributary of the Río Adaja in the Spanish provinces of Segovia and Valladolid in the autonomous region of Castile and León .
course
The Río Eresma arises from several mountain streams in the Valle de Valsaín on the north side of the Iberian mountain range ( Sierra de Guadarrama ) in the area of the municipality Real Sitio de San Ildefonso - water-bearing only during the snowmelt or after heavy rainfall . His route initially leads through the Valsaín valley north to Segovia . There it turns to the northwest, passes the place and the Coca Castle and flows into the Río Adaja about 5 kilometers northeast of the village of Matapozuelos in the province of Valladolid , which in turn joins the Duero another 20 kilometers northwest .
Tributaries
After the snowmelt and after heavy rainfall, the Río Eresma has a large number of more or less small tributaries, especially in the headwaters; however, most of them run out of water in summer and autumn. The largest permanent water-bearing tributary is the Río Voltoya , which flows into the Río Eresma at Coca .
Attractions
The Río Eresma flows about one kilometer west of the Royal Palace of La Granja . The main attraction on the river is the city of Segovia with its Roman aqueduct , several Romanesque churches, the cathedral and the medieval Alcázar . In the further course the river passes the place and the castle Coca .
Others
The natural headwaters of the Río Eresma are ideal as a hiking and fishing area ( brown trout etc.). Depending on the water level, canoe tours are possible on the calm middle and lower reaches.
