Erich Küpker

Erich Ludwig Hermann Küpker (born March 27, 1933 in Oldenburg ; † March 15, 2012 there ) was a German agricultural engineer and politician ( FDP ).

Life and work

Erich Küpker was born the son of a farmer. After attending primary school, grammar school and the agricultural school in Witzenhausen , he worked as a farming assistant at the Weser-Ems Chamber of Agriculture from 1956 to 1958 . He then took up a degree in agriculture at the University of Kiel , which he completed with the examination to become a qualified agricultural engineer. In 1961 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Agricultural Policy in Kiel and then completed a legal clerkship in Schleswig-Holstein . After the assessor exam, he worked from 1964 to 1974 as an employee at the Staatliche Kreditanstalt Oldenburg-Bremen, since 1967 in the function of an authorized signatory. At the end of the 1970s he was a member of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG . In 1978 he started working as a freelance management consultant in Oldenburg. In 1980 he was a co-founder of the Rudolf von Bennigsen Foundation and has been its chairman since 2001.

Erich Küpker last lived in Oldenburg. He was buried in the Bad-Zwischenahn oven.

Political party

Küpker joined the FDP in 1956 . He was a member and state chairman of the Liberal Student Union , and was district chairman of the young democrats in Kiel and Oldenburg. He was district chairman of the FDP in Oldenburg, was deputy district chairman of the FDP for 20 years and was a member of the state board of the FDP Lower Saxony for 16 years , including 10 years as deputy chairman.

Küpker was from March to summer 1974, from 1976 to 1977 and from 1981 to 1986 council member of the city ​​of Oldenburg . He was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from 1974 to 1978 and again from 1982 to 1994.

Public offices

Küpker was appointed to the government of Lower Saxony led by Prime Minister Alfred Kubel on July 10, 1974 as Lower Saxony Minister for Economics and Transport . After the break of the social-liberal coalition, the election of Ernst Albrecht as prime minister and the formation of a CDU sole government, he left the government on February 6, 1976.

Küpker was again Minister in Lower Saxony on January 19, 1977 and again took over the management of the Ministry of Economics and Transport in Albrecht's Second Cabinet . Due to the defeat of the FDP, which failed in the 1978 state elections because of the five percent hurdle , Küpker left the government on June 28, 1978 and was replaced as Minister of Economics by Birgit Breuel .
