Carlo Graaff

Carlo Graaff (born July 20, 1914 in Haaren ; † December 9, 1975 in Braunlage ) was a German politician of the FDP .

Life and work

After graduating from the Aachen Realgymnasium in 1932, Graaff did a one and a half year internship. He then studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University in Aachen and Berlin . In 1939 he became a graduate engineer and worked as operations manager and deputy operations manager in a wagon factory. After initially working in other companies, in 1950 he took over his father's Lower Saxony wagon factory Joseph Graaff in Elze near Hildesheim as owner and manager. He founded a branch for the construction of light metal buses. Graaff was chairman of the employers' association in the Hildesheim Chamber of Commerce and Industry (until 1968), honorary judge at the regional labor court and member of the board of the Hanover regional insurance company .

Political party

Graaff joined the FDP in 1949 and was state chairman of the Lower Saxony FDP from 1957 to 1968 . In 1956 he had already taken on this role as a manager. He belonged within the FDP to the "Hohensyburger Kreis" . In contrast to many other members of this discussion group of the right wing of the party, however, he did not leave the FDP when the National Liberal Action was founded. From 1957 to 1970 he was a member of the FDP federal executive committee .

MP

Graaff was a member of the German Bundestag from July 4, 1955, when he replaced Robert Dannemann , until May 8, 1959, and from 1965 until his death in 1975 . From June 15, 1972 until the end of the legislative period , he was chairman of the economic committee of the Bundestag. From the state election in 1963 until his resignation on June 26, 1963, he was a member of the state parliament in Lower Saxony (fifth electoral term).

Public offices

Graaff was Lower Saxony's Minister for Economics and Transport from May 6, 1959 to May 13, 1965 . He lost his office as a result of the formation of a grand coalition of CDU and SPD in Lower Saxony.
