Erich Karl (* 1924 in Ulm ; † 2009 in Schelklingen ) was a German businessman, local politician and coin collector.

Life

The trained forwarding agent Erich Karl worked in the metal goods factory Schelklingen since the 1950s, first as a commercial employee, then until 1991 as managing director.

For many years Erich Karl was a local councilor and deputy mayor of Schelklingen. As a long-time local politician, he has received several awards. He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . He received the Medal of Honor of the State of Baden-Württemberg and the commemorative medal in gold for his services to the cooperative system. Erich Karl was an honorary citizen of the city of Schelklingen.

Coin collection

Erich Karl put together a private collection with more than 800 coins from the Greek and Roman periods from the province of Caria in Asia Minor . It was auctioned on November 27, 2006 at the Numismatik Lanz auction house in Munich. The collection included 837 coins. This included embossing the satraps and dynasts ( Hekatomnos , Maussolos , Hidrieus , Pixodarus , Eupolemus and indefinite satraps), the Carian cities ( Alabanda , Alinda , Antioch on the Meander , Aphrodisias , Apollonia Salbake , Attuda , Bargylia , Chersonese , Euromos , Halicarnassus , Herakleia-Salbake , Hydisos , Hyllarima , Iasos , Idyma , Kaunos , Keramos , Kidramos , Kindya , Knidos , Kranaos , Mygissos , Mylasa , Mindos , Orthosia , Sebastopolis , Stratonikeia , Syangela , Tabai , Trapezopolis ) and the Carian Islands ( Kalymnos , Kos , Nisyros and Rhodes with the cities of Ialysos , Kameiros , Lindos and Rhodes). The main focus of the collection was on the issues of the city of Rhodes and the replicas of its types of coins.
