Erich Kohlhauer

Erich Kohlhauer (* 2. May 1891 in Hanau , † 14. December 1970 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German officer of the Army of the Wehrmacht in World War II . His last rank was that of major general .

Military career

First World War and Weimar Republic

Promoted to ensign on March 3, 1910 , Kohlhauer initially served in the Prussian Army in Telegraph Battalion 3 . He remained in this until the outbreak of the First World War . During this time he was promoted to lieutenant on March 20, 1911 . From August 1914 to 1916 he was the leader of a radio station, where he was promoted to lieutenant on June 18, 1915 . In 1916, Kohlhauer was employed as a consultant for the head of the news department . 1918 carbon Hauser took place promoted to captain and its use as head of Fortress telephone company in the Army Department C . At the end of 1920 Kohlhauer was retired from the provisional Reichswehr .

Wehrmacht and World War II

On October 1, 1934, Kohlhauser was reactivated with senior service as a captain in the Reichswehr . There he served as the company commander of intelligence department 8 until the end of August 1935 . On September 1, 1935, Kohlhauer, while being promoted to major , was appointed commander of communications department 48 , which he commanded until the end of April 1938. It was here that he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on April 1, 1938 . After the annexation of Austria , Kohlhauer acted from May 1938 to the end of March 1939 as commander of the communications command in Vienna . On April 1, 1939 Kohlhauer rose to head of department in the Wehrmacht High Command , where he was responsible for the Wehrmacht-Nachrichten -verbindungen (WNV). Kohlhauer, promoted to colonel on April 1, 1941, held this position until the end of March 1942. At that time, his superior was General of the Erich Fellgiebel intelligence service . On April 1, 1942 he was appointed commander of the Army News Regiment 589 , whose post he gave up after only a few weeks. As early as May 1, 1942, he was appointed Army News Leader of the 4th Army , whose functions he held until the end of March 1944. During this time Kohlhauer was awarded the German Silver Cross on October 22, 1943 . On April 1, 1944, Kohlhauer was appointed news leader of Army Group Center , where he was promoted to major general on April 1, 1945.

On April 10, 1945 Kohlhauer was awarded the Knight's Cross of the War Merit Cross with Swords and was also appointed Higher News Leader Reich in the High Command of the Wehrmacht (OKW); a position he held after the end of the war until May 21, 1945 under the Dönitz government . Then Kohlhauer fell into British captivity , from which he was released on July 1, 1947. His daughter Astrid (1938-2014 or 2015) was married to Bernhard Graf zu Solms-Wildenfels (* 1941).
