Karl Hermann Erich Wernick (born June 27, 1877 in Eisenach ; † June 15, 1956 in Saarbrücken ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CNBL / ThLB ). From 1910 to 1918 he was a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach , from 1920 to 1927 a member and from 1924 at the same time president of the Thuringian state parliament .

Erich Wernick was the son of the Eisenach lawyer Karl Hermann Maximilian Wernick (1850–1915) and Annette Gertrud Wernick, née Bornemann. After attending grammar school in Eisenach, he studied law at the universities in Leipzig , Munich , Geneva , Berlin and Jena . He completed his legal clerkship in Eisenach and Jena , where he passed the second state examination in February 1903. The doctor of law practiced as a lawyer from 1903 to 1945 , first in Jena, from 1919 to 1922 in Eisenach, from 1922 to 1931 in Weimar and then again in his native city. From 1920 to 1945 he also worked as a notary.

Wernick was politically active and from January 1910 to November 1918 was a member of the state parliament in the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach for the Conservatives . After the end of the war and the November Revolution, he joined the Thuringian Farmers' Union (TBB) in 1919, which shortly thereafter became the Thuringian Landbund (ThLB). From June 15, 1919 to 1928 he was deputy (second) chairman and managing director of the Thuringian farmers and rural association. He was then elected its honorary chairman. From September 20, 1930 to September 30, 1931 he was chief executive of the Christian National Peasant and Rural People's Party (CNBL) founded in 1928.

Wernick was a member of the Thuringian state parliament from June 1920 to February 1927, and from 1924 to 1927 as a member of the Thuringian Order Association . From February 21, 1924 to February 9, 1927 he was President of the State Parliament.

From 1926 to 1929 Wernick was a member of the supervisory board of AG Obere Saale (AGOS), which was responsible for the construction of the Saale dams. In the 1930s and 1940s, he was a member of the supervisory board of the Eisenach stock brewery , the Eisenacher Ziegelei AG and the Arnoldische Bierbrauerei GmbH based in Gotha . On April 1, 1936, he joined the NSDAP (membership number 3.732.064). He was also a member of the National Socialist Legal Guardian Association (NSRB), from 1934 of the NSKK and from 1936 of the NS-Reichskriegerbundes .

During the Second World War Wernick was a reserve officer. With the rank of captain dR, he served as a censorship officer at Luftgaukommando IV . In 1943 he was discharged from the Wehrmacht as a major dR with the character of lieutenant colonel dR .

After the end of the war he worked as a lawyer and notary in the Eisenach law firm of Rudolf Lotz . On March 26, 1956, he fled to West Germany .

Erich Wernick was married three times. In May 1903 he married Elise Emilie Paulus (1873–1925), daughter of Lieutenant General Gustav Paulus (1842–1902), in September 1930 the accountant daughter Elisabeth Charlotte Emilie Heckert (1890–1939) and in May 1941 Mathilde Albertine Maurer (1886–1978) ), the daughter of a telegraph director.
