Erik Pasche

Erik Pasche (born September 29, 1955 in Dresden ; † November 30, 2010 in Hamburg ) was a German engineer and university professor .

biography

After attending school, he studied civil engineering at RWTH Aachen University and completed his doctorate with a dissertation on the subject of "Turbulence Mechanisms in Near-Natural Rivers and Their Mathematical Modeling" in 1984 summa cum laude . In addition, his doctoral thesis was awarded the Borchers plaque from RWTH Aachen University. He then received a scholarship of NATO for a research stay at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis).

After returning from the United States , he became a partner and scientific advisor at the engineering office Björnsen Beratende Ingenieure GmbH in Koblenz .

In 1998 he accepted the position as professor of hydraulic engineering at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH) and held this position until his unexpected death from a myocardial infarction . He was also head of the Institute for Hydraulic Engineering at the TUHH.

As a university lecturer, he dealt with research in the areas of coastal protection , risk management of floods and the consequences of climate change and global warming, and was thus recognized throughout Europe in specialist circles .

In addition, he was temporarily active as the dean of studies at the TUHH and also held a visiting professorship at the UNESCO Institute for Hydrological Training ( UNESCO-IHE ) in Delft . He was also a visiting fellow at the Royal Academy for Engineering University in London between 2007 and 2008 .

Most recently he was involved as a scientific coordinator in the "Klimzug-Nord" consortium , which deals with adaptation strategies to climate change in the metropolitan region of Hamburg and, as a joint project of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), develops measures against the consequences of climate change with 25 institutions.

Pasche was not only a member of the board of the Port Technology Society, but also head of working groups in the Association of Engineers for Water Management, Waste Management and Cultivation (BWK) and in the German Association for Water Management, Sewage and Waste (DWA). He was also internationally committed to climate protection as part of his role as Vice-Chairman of the COST initiative C22 (Urban Flood Management).

Most recently he was the initiator of the International Conference for Hydroinformatics, which took place for the first time in Hamburg in June 2012 and where more than 300 experts exchanged information in the field of hydraulic engineering and climate protection.
