history

The Church of the Redeemer is home to the parish of Leopoldau of the Evangelical Superintendent of Vienna . The building was built from 1959 to 1961 according to plans by the architect Ernst Liebe. The vicar Friedrich Preyer at the time designed the altar, the pulpit and the baptismal font. Preyer was later a pastor in the Liesingen Johanneskirche , for which he made several reliefs. While the single-family houses to the south and west of the church date from the 1930s, the community buildings on the building sites in the north and east were not built until 1967 to 1969. During a renovation in 1983, the Erlöserkirche received a slightly vaulted wooden ceiling. In the bell tower hangs a bell (tone: e ''), which was cast by the Grassmayr bell foundry in 1964.
