history

Already in the 11th century there was a small chapel, dedicated to St. Nicholas, followed by other chapels dedicated to St. Sebastian, St. John of Nepomuk and the Three Kings.

The core of today's church is the Maria Loretto Chapel, built in 1713 by landlady Countess Antonia Renata von Bouguoy. The area around Jedlesee and the Weinviertel was part of the Diocese of Passau until 1785 . Since a plague raged in Vienna and the surrounding area in 1713 , the planned date of the consecration for the birth of Mary on September 8th was probably postponed to October 15th. On July 5, 1769, Pope Clemens XIV gave the Maria Loretto Church in Jedlesee, Diocese of Passau, a complete indulgence for the annual feast of the birth of Mary .

1779 the landlord built Anton Störck from the chapel to the church, which the chapel to the altar area of the church was. In 1834 the church was elevated to a parish church, and in 1877 it was expanded again. The church was given the tower in 1885 on the initiative of Pastor Vinzenz Wenhart, who laid out the present Jedleseer Friedhof in 1873 after the now abandoned cemetery at Jeneweingasse 30 was too small.

Despite various additions that changed the original shape, the church, which was fundamentally renovated in 1936, has retained the character of a simple country church. In the vestibule on the right is the statue of St. Florian, left one of St. Sebastian. Noteworthy are the two side altar paintings by Franz Anton Maulbertsch , on the left St. Peregrinus, on the right St. Patricius. On the northern outer wall is a war memorial created by Adolf Weilguni with military insignia, a cross, laurel branches and inscription plaques that commemorate the fallen of the two world wars from Jedlesee. Next to it is a memorial plaque for the Capuchin Father Joachim Haspinger , who temporarily worked here as a chaplain , a companion of the Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer . Haspinger was also the first provisional parish (1811-15) of the Karl Borromäus parish in Großjedlersdorf .
