Erlach is a district of Hirschaid in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg and is about 12 km south of Bamberg on the Regnitz and the Main-Danube Canal . The village has just under 450 inhabitants.

history

The results of an area excavation show that it was already in the 14th century BC. There was a settlement in today's Erlach and thus Erlach is one of the longest inhabited places in Franconia. Erlach was first mentioned in a document in 1062 as "Sconen erlaha" (To the beautiful Erlach). The Schlüsselau monastery had extensive tithe rights there. In terms of church, Erlach initially belonged to the parish of Buttenheim, but was then separated by contract in 1654 and assigned to the former parish of Röbersdorf. The Erlacher mill is probably one of the oldest mills on the Ebrachgrund. The jewels of the place are the small village church, consecrated in 1954, and the nearby cemetery. Its own school was established in 1918, but is no longer used as such.

The place was incorporated into Hirschaid on January 1, 1972.
