The Erlenbach is about two kilometers long left tributary of the Anlauter near Nennslingen in the central Franconian district of Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen .
etymology
The stream is named after the alder , a deciduous tree that is characteristic of swamp forests in this country .
course
It arises in the Bergen district of Syburg from the confluence of the right main ditch coming from Bergen and the left Augraben , also called Weiherespangraben , near Dannhausen . A little west of the WUG 14 district road, it meanders south to Nennslingen , where it flows through the Schwabenweiher and shortly afterwards flows into the upper Anlauter from the left within the village.
The largest part of its course leads through an alder forest , a swamp forest that is flooded for most of the year. The alder is one of the few native tree species that can exist under these conditions. The area is a refuge for rare amphibians , birds and plants. Since 2011, a piece of around 3000 m 2 has been owned by the State Association for Bird Protection .
