geography

Stream course

The creek through the Erlensklinge rises approx. 250 m southeast of the main building of the Löwenstein clinic at approx. 473  m above sea level. NHN close to the western forest path through the Mühlmahd forest from the Hirrweiler water tower to the water reservoir in Untertal. It runs the first almost 200 meters southwest to the southern edge of the clinic park. Only about a hundred meters away from the provincial road 1066 , from now on, accompanied by it as far as the mouth, initially on a southern course through the valley forest. After about a third of its length, it passes the Hirrweiler sewage treatment plant and then turns permanently south-east. After about two thirds it passes the mentioned water reservoir, where a short left Klingenbach flows into the Mühlmagd , and changes to the other side of the main road to the edge of the Hummelbühl forest on the right slope of the valley. Finally, in the Lautertal, it crosses the state road again and flows out at around 396  m above sea level. NHN opposite the waterworks on the left bank from the right into the upper Lauter, which there, between the deserted area of the former forester's house Joachimstal and the hamlet of Altlautern , flows south and is only 3.2 km long there.

The creek through the Erlensklinge flows after a 2.0 km long run with an average bottom gradient of about 38 ‰, about 77 meters in altitude below its source.

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Erlensklinge covers approx. 1.2 km², of which over nine tenths are covered with forest; Almost only the north-west corner near the source is open on the grounds of the Löwenstein Clinic. From a natural point of view, it is located in the lower region of the southwestern Löwenstein Mountains of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains . Everywhere there is the typical Stubensandstein ( Löwenstein formation ). Settlement is limited to the part of the clinic that is inside. With the exception of a tiny gusset in the Lautertal around the estuary, which belongs to the municipality of Wüstenrot, the catchment area is part of the Wüstenrot city limits.

The highest point in the clinic grounds on the northwest corner is just over 500  m above sea level. NHN , the watersheds on both sides of the valley basin remain long over 470 m above sea level on both  sides . NHN and far predominantly to the beginning of the estuary wedge over 460  m above sea level. NHN . The competing brooks in the north on the Stubensandstein step edge run steeply down to the main branch Nonnenbach of the Schlierbach , which flows into the Sulm , which directly absorbs the flatter brooks behind the western watershed and itself rises close to the southeast corner of the catchment area. Behind the ridge of the Hummelsbühl in the south a smaller stream drains a little further down to the Lauter, behind the north-eastern one through the Mühlmahd an even smaller one reaches the Lauter a little above the Erlensklinge.

Nature and protected areas

The brook through the Erlensklinge is about a meter wide, on the first third rather straight, then it meanders. It flows over a loamy or sandy bed in a floodplain only about ten meters wide; it is fed by many seepage springs with white milkweed ; on the other side of a strip of alder trees near the shore, conifers usually grow.

The immediate estuary in the open Lauteraue lies in the Spiegelberger Lautertal landscape protection area with side valleys and adjacent areas . Almost the entire catchment area lies within the designated water protection area Löwenstein, Wüstenrot and Löwenstein Clinic .
