The Erlspitze is the highest peak in the Erlspitz group |
The Erlspitz Group , also known as the Seefelder Group, is the most south-westerly side group of the Austrian part of the Karwendel . It encloses the Eppzirler Tal in a horseshoe shape and connects to the Nordkette in the south via the Erlsattel at the Solsteinhaus . Bounded in the west by the Seefeld depression, in the east by the Gleirschtal and the Großkristental , its northern wooded foothills reach as far as Scharnitz .
In contrast to the four large Karwendel chains, the Erlspitz group is made up of main dolomite . Typical are bizarre forms of weathering such as towers, rock needles and heavily chipped ridges as well as rock gates and caves as a result of the rapid decay of individual rock layers.
The valley locations are Hochzirl , Reith , Seefeld and Scharnitz , all of which can be reached via the Mittenwaldbahn on the Innsbruck - Mittenwald railway line .
Two alpine club huts serve as bases for tours in the Erlspitz group: in the west the Nördlinger hut , in the south the Solsteinhaus . In the northern part of the Erlspitz group is the Oberbrunnalm , which is open in summer , and the Eppzirler Alm in the Eppzirler Valley .
