Erna-Maria Geier

Erna-Maria Geier b. Erna-Maria Münch , (* May 24, 1923 in Karlsruhe , † October 18, 1994 in Waldbrunn / Odenwald ) was a German politician of the CDU . From 1966 to 1976 she was a member of the Hessian Landtag and from 1976 to 1983 a member of the German Bundestag.

Life

After school and professional training in Nuremberg and Illertissen , Erna-Maria Geier worked as a teacher from 1944 to 1950. In 1950 she became head of the Bergstrasse family education center.

The practicing Catholic was very committed to the church. On May 6, 1964, she founded the Viernheim family education center as a mother and woman school for the Maria Ward sisters and was a volunteer director for a long time. Erna Maria Geier had brought the idea of ​​the social station from Rhineland-Palatinate , where the first facility of this kind was founded in Worms in 1970, to Hesse . In Viernheim, the fourth welfare station in Germany was created through their commitment. In the last years of her life she was very committed to the right to life of unborn children.

Erna-Maria Geier was married and had six children.

Erna-Maria Geier joined the CDU in 1950 and was politically active in southern Hesse throughout her life. Since 1956 she was active in local politics. She was a member of the Bergstrasse district council for 16 years . From 1960 to 1976 she was a city councilor in Viernheim.

From December 1, 1966 to March 8, 1976 she was a member of the Hessian state parliament . From March 5, 1976 to March 29, 1983 she was a member of the German Bundestag .

In 1979 she was a member of the 7th Federal Assembly .

Disappointed by the Kohl government because of the lack of a “ spiritual-moral turn ”, Erna-Maria Geier became increasingly involved in the pre-political area. She tried to gather conservative forces, always keeping the protection of unborn children in mind as a long-term goal. At the end of 1986 she founded the Association for Culture and Politics together and with significant support from the youth writer Günter Stiff from Münster . This should prepare the foundation of a Catholic party in the long term. At the first event of this association on March 7, 1987 in Bad Nauheim , Günter Rohrmoser gave a speech and emphasized that the CDU would never initiate a “spiritual-moral turn”.

In 1993, together with Emil Schlee , she initiated the founding of the party Aufbruch 94 - German Free Electoral Association . Günter Stiff from Münster also provided strong support here.
