Ernst Hintze

Ernst Hintze (born April 20, 1893 in Freyburg an der Unstrut , † April 18, 1965 in Berlin ) was a German choir director and Kapellmeister .

Life

Ernst Hintze was born in Freyburg an der Unstrut in the Prussian province of Saxony in 1893 . He attended the Royal Conservatory in Dresden , which he left in 1919. In 1920 he joined the Saxon State Opera in Dresden as a répétiteur . In 1925 he became deputy choir director. He then took over the choir production in the world premiere of the opera Doctor Faust by Ferruccio Busoni . The musical direction was held by General Music Director Fritz Busch , who was supposed to promote Hintze. After Karl Maria Pembaur's death in 1939, he became the choir director himself (until 1961). His stage performances included u. a. Die Liebe der Danae by Richard Strauss and Amphitryon by Robert Oboussier and Antigonae , Der Mond and Carmina Burana by Carl Orff .

In addition, he was from 1939 to 1945 together with Kurt Striegler , Karl Böhm and Karl Elmendorff lieder master / artistic director of the Dresden teachers' choir , today's Singakademie Dresden .

He was a teacher at the orchestra school of the Dresden State Opera (OSK) and head of the conducting class at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden. Hintze cooperated with a “preparatory orchestra” at the OSK, studied performances and directed them. His students, including several later choirmasters, included a. Franz Herzog , Wolfgang Hocke , Wolfram Jacobi , Herbert Kegel , Thomas Müller , Hans-Dieter Pflüger , Andreas Pieske , Rolf Reuter , Peter Schreier , Wolfgang Strauss , Siegfried Völkel and Gerhart Wüstner .

On the occasion of his 40 years with the house, he became an honorary member of the State Opera in 1960.

After his death in 1965 he was buried in the Tolkewitz urn grove in Dresden.
