Ernst Julius Remak
Ernst Remak (born May 26, 1849 in Berlin , † May 24, 1911 in Wiesbaden ) was a German neurologist and university professor of Jewish descent.
Life
His father Robert Remak was a famous neurologist, physiologist and embryologist. He was married to Martha Hahn, their marriage to the mathematician Robert Remak . His brothers-in-law were the microbiologist Martin Hahn and the mathematician Kurt Hensel .
After graduating from the Maria-Magdalenen-Gymnasium in his hometown, Remak studied from 1867 at the Silesian Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Breslau . In 1867 he became a member of the Corps Borussia Breslau , where he was active with Waldemar Dyhrenfurth and Georg von Caro . As an inactive he moved to the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Berlin , later to the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg , the Kaiser-Wilhelms-Universität Strasbourg and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . 1870–71 he served in the Franco-German War . He then worked at the Charité in Berlin . In 1877 he became a private lecturer and in 1893 a professor . He died shortly before his 62nd birthday.
Remak was a student of Wilhelm Erb during his studies in Heidelberg . The so-called Remak sign or Remak reflex (syn. Femoralisreflex ), ie the flexion of the hip and knee joint and dorsiflexion of the foot after wiping the inside of the thigh , is named after him .
