Ernst Schäfer (politician, 1906)

Ernst Schäfer (born June 27, 1906 in Sindelfingen ; † February 12, 1989 ) was a German trade unionist, works council chairman and politician of the SPD .

Career

Schäfer began an apprenticeship as a toolmaker at the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft in Sindelfingen in 1920 , where he then worked. In 1948 he was elected chairman of the works council of the Daimler-Benz works in Sindelfingen, and in 1952 he was elected chairman of the general works council of the Daimler-Benz works , a position he held until 1971.

In 1921 Schäfer became a union member. In 1949 he was a delegate at the founding congress of the German Federation of Trade Unions . Since 1951 he was a member of the IG Metall board .

In 1923 Schäfer joined the SPD, in 1945 he participated as a founding member in the reconstruction of the local SPD association in Sindelfingen, in which he held the local chairmanship until 1965. In 1946 he was elected to the local council for the first time, to which he was re-elected several times, four times receiving the most votes of all candidates. In 1948 he took over the parliamentary group chairmanship of the SPD, which he held for 22 years. He was also the deputy mayor of Sindelfingen. In 1975 he resigned from the local council. He was also a member of the district council in the Boeblingen district from 1953 .

In 1950 he was elected to the state parliament of Württemberg-Baden , to which he belonged until it was dissolved two years later. In 1956 he was elected to the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg for the first time through a second mandate in the constituency of Böblingen . In the elections in 1960 and 1964 he won the direct mandate. In 1968 he returned to parliament with a second mandate, from which he resigned prematurely on September 8, 1970. His successor was Erwin Lamparter .

Schäfer found his final resting place in the Sindelfingen Burghaldenfriedhof. In 1996 the Ernst-Schäfer-Haus, a community center, was named after him.
