The state elections in Baden-Württemberg in 1956 took place on March 4th. The KPD took part in a state election in Germany for the last time before it was banned in the summer of that year . The all-party coalition led by Prime Minister Gebhard Müller was continued.

Starting position

The CDU was in the opposition until 1953 . FDP / DVP, SPD and GB / BHE had a coalition government under Prime Minister Reinhold Maier ( FDP / DVP ) formed . After September 30, 1953, a “quasi-all-party coalition” was led under Prime Minister Gebhard Müller (CDU) ; only the KPD was not involved in the government.
