Ernst Steiner (born October 28, 1920 in Hallau ; † June 7, 2012 ; resident in Hallau and Birrwil ) was a Swiss politician ( BGB / SVP ).

Life

Ernst Steiner, son of the businessman Ernst Steiner senior, attended the canton school in Schaffhausen since 1935 . In 1945 Ernst Steiner began his professional career as an accessist at the State Chancellery , later he was employed as a clerk in Schaffhausen. After working for a year at the Federal Insurance Office in Bern , he was elected public prosecutor in Schaffhausen in 1949 . In 1959 Steiner moved to Schweizerische Mobiliar as a general agent , a position he held until 1967. In 1968 Ernst Steiner, who also held the office of chief judge from 1965 to 1976, was appointed director of Portland-Zementwerke Thayngen AG, a position he held until 1985. In addition, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors there from 1984 to 1996 .

The BGB - (later SVP -) member was represented in the Schaffhausen Cantonal Council from 1957 to 1968, including the 1967 term of office as President, and from 1977 to 1984 . In 1979 he was elected to the Council of States , where he sat until 1987. There he was committed to the concerns of the Swiss Army , the concerns of employer representatives and the revision of the antitrust law.

Steiner held various board memberships, including at Suva and Georg Fischer AG . In 1953, 1954 and 1958 he was a member of the Swiss Korea Mission . In the Swiss Army, with the rank of brigadier , he was in command of Border Brigade 6 . He also held the presidency of the Schaffhausen Officers' Society. Ernst Steiner, who married Hanny, the daughter of the timber merchant Paul Heer, in 1950, died in 2012 at the age of 92.
