Ernst Wladislaus Graf von Dönhoff (born November 26, 1672 in Königsberg , † June 10, 1724 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He came from the Dönhoff family and was a son of Count Friedrich von Dönhoff († 1696) and his wife Eleonore Katharina Elisabeth, née Countess von Schwerin († 1696).

Military career

Dönhoff began his military career in 1686 as a captain in the "Anhalt" regiment. On October 27, 1790 he was promoted to major and as such was in 1696 commander of the "Anhalt-Dessau" battalion. It followed in 1690/97 the participation in the campaign against France , where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1696 . In 1698, then already a colonel , Dönhoff was in 1699 as chamberlain in the service of Elector Friedrich III. In 1704 Dönhoff was the commander of the "Hessen-Kassel" regiment and again moved against France in 1702/13 . On January 15, 1705 he was promoted to major general . In this capacity, King Friedrich Wilhelm I appointed him chief of a newly formed infantry regiment on April 3, 1713 , which led to the name “von Dönhoff” infantry regiment. As lieutenant general Dönhoff took part in the siege of Stralsund in 1715 and from mid-January 1723 also acted as governor of Kolberg .

Dönhoff died unmarried and was buried on June 20, 1724 in the Berlin garrison church. He was hereditary lord of the Marcklackschen estates in Prussia and Commander of the Order of St. John in Schivelbein .
