Ernst Wurm (born June 30, 1906 in Katzelsdorf , † September 30, 1971 in Wiener Neustadt ) was an Austrian writer.

Life

Ernst Wurm was born the fifth child after four girls to a forester from the Waldviertel in Katzelsdorf, who at that time was in the service of the Duke of Parma. When he was two years old, the family moved to Sigleß near Sopron , where the father joined the Hartig and Rottermann family. He attended the Hungarian elementary school. After the early death of his father, Ernst Wurm moved to Wiener Neustadt to live with foster parents, especially since his mother Anna, née Kainz, was from Wiener Neustadt. In Wiener Neustadt he attended the lower secondary school and the municipal commercial school. As a teenager he had contacts with the Wiener Neustädter Stadttheater and took private acting lessons in Vienna. He found work as a commercial clerk and tried his hand at writing. Wurm had valuable encounters in Berlin, where Ullstein called him for meetings and lectures - he received a monthly fixed salary for two years - and was able to quit his job as a commercial clerk in 1930. The play Stossenfreund und Auguste was acquired by the Stadttheater Berlin in 1931 ; a performance with Walter Rilla was planned, but did not take place. With the novella Mitnichten der Messiah he had his first self-reading in 1932 on the Berlin transmitter. He read with Paula Ludwig and got to know Paul Wiegler , Ödön von Horváth , Erich Mühsam , Ina Seidel and Armin T. Wegner . Max Krell and Max Tau checked his work. With Alexander Moissi he had conversations about Tolstoy, Christ and Budda.

Ernst was chairman of the Lower Austrian Heimatwerk and organized poetry readings in the marble hall of the Lower Austrian provincial government.
