Erwin Bucher

Erwin Bucher (born January 9, 1920 in St. Gallen ; † September 2, 2001 in Bertschikon ), reformed , resident in Malters , was a Swiss historian .

Life

Erwin Bucher, son of the businessman Alfred Erwin Bucher, graduated from the canton school in St. Gallen in 1940 . He then began studying economics at the St. Gallen School of Business and at the University of Geneva ; his degree as lic. He obtained oec. in 1946. Bucher then worked in the trade, from 1951 to 1958 he served as the FDP - municipal council of the city of St. Gallen.

In 1958 Bucher began studying history at the University of Zurich , and in 1962 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . After settling at the University of Zurich in 1969 habilitation had occurred there in 1970 his election as assistant professor of modern history , especially Swiss history of the 19th and 20th century , in 1985 he retired. Erwin Bucher, 1965 from Wädenswil native Classicist and high school teacher Barbara, the daughter of weaving owner Max Isler, married, died in 2001 age of 81 in Bertschikon.

Bucher's research focuses on the prehistory and founding of the federal state as well as Switzerland in the Second World War . In a monograph published in 1991, he questioned the negative image of Federal Councilor Marcel Pilet-Golaz as head of the Political Department from 1940 to 1944. In 1970 his political work was published on the City Council of St. Gallen.
