Erwin Hilbert (born March 2, 1951 in Hamm ) is a German painter , sculptor, photographer, author and songwriter.

Life

Erwin Hilbert grew up as a miner's son in Hamm . He completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic and then worked for several years as a disc jockey in Hamm, Dortmund, Ahlen and Beckum. Hilbert married Walburga Holz at the age of 19. There were six children from this marriage.

Influenced by the Jesus People movement, Hilbert joined a Pentecostal free church , which he left after 18 years of belonging to a congregation and working with his family. He did his community service in the Hamburg youth welfare facility Rauhes Haus . It was here that he discovered his interest in working with young people with behavioral problems and, as part of his pedagogical training, studied art and handicraft pedagogy at the Fachschule für Sozialpädagogik Wagnerstrasse in Hamburg. He later took two semesters of Protestant theology in contact studies with Martina Böhm at the University of Hamburg . Hilbert was active throughout Germany for ten years with concerts and lectures, mainly in the Catholic Church. The politically left-wing artist has lived in Tostedt since 1983 .

Artistic work

From 1985 Hilbert managed the rock band The Future of his sons Kieran and Lukas , who were promoted by Udo Lindenberg from 1987 and accepted into his panic orchestra. Erwin Hilbert worked as his secretary and artistic advisor from 1989 and on a total of ten Lindenberg albums. He also accompanied the singer when he started painting. In December 2002 he exhibited Lindenberg 's picture cycle The 10 Commandments , as he describes it in the greeting to his art catalog Goldakrobaten und Horizonte , which was inspired by Hilbert's inspiration, in Hamburg's main church Sankt Jacobi . In 2008 Hilbert and Sebastian Winkler produced the first setting of the Ludolf brothers Wir sind die Ludolf brothers . In 2009 he received the David Award (Promikon) for “Best Christian Website” for his website Himmelscafe .

Among other things, he published the parable Eduard Kratzfuss illustrated by Manuel Nordus - Tales of a Mole , the autobiography Im Club der Schwarze Schafe , with drawings by Udo Lindenberg, and nine CDs of modern gospel music. In his satire Pope Edward I , published in 2011 , he dealt critically with sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. Hilbert worked from 2008 to 2014 as a painter in his atelier myART "Hinterm Diekhof". In March 2015 he founded the Kömoland artists' initiative in the original Königsmoor moor research station , where “Kömo” stands for the first letters of the terms art, ecology, music and optimism. In the premises and on the surrounding natural area, Hilbert also promotes and supports young art talents and organizes events with the aim of helping people in need. Regularly on May 1st, the artists' initiative exhibits art for the public under the motto "Image Walk" in the open air. B. a fundraising event for a boy scout organization.

At Tostedt Medienwerk 15 , Hilbert, as its cultural representative, organized cultural events for Tostedt and the surrounding area from 2016 to 2018. This includes the talk show Hilbert meets! His guests included u. a. Gregor Gysi , Rolf Brendel , Sarah Lesch , Volker Michels , and Nervling . Hilbert was also one of the contributors who were interviewed by Hannes Rossacher for a TV documentary ( ZDF 2016) on the occasion of Udo Lindenberg's 70th birthday .

Erwin Hilbert was also the drummer in the band Goldmund , which he founded, from 2015 to 2018 , the rock-bluesy, improvised fusion music based on Fluxus .

Exhibitions and works in public space (selection)

Retrospective in the Marschtorzwinger Buxtehude 2020

Hilbert's art exhibition Gold Acrobats & Horizons! took place in Tostedt in 2016, an art catalog of the same name was published.

After a life-saving procedure, three pictures by Hilbert have been on permanent loan at Asklepios Klinikum Harburg since 2017 . In 2018 Hilbert presented his new theme cycle The 7 Deadly Sins in Medienwerk 15. Also in 2018, Hilbert organized the light installation “A heap of light!” In front of his Königsmoor studio. He began his sculptural work in 2019. These and other works of his work were shown in 2020 as a retrospective under the title “To the point!” In the historic Buxtehude Marschtorzwinger City of Buxtehude exhibited An exhibition in the Protestant Church of St. Petri in Buxtehude was closed prematurely in July 2020 due to differences with the church council regarding the modalities of the exhibition.
