The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Gulu ( Latin Archidioecesis Guluensis ) is in Uganda located Metropolitan Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Gulu .
history
The forerunner of today's diocese is the Apostolic Prefecture Nilo Equatoriale , which was founded on June 12, 1923 by Pope Pius XI. from the prefecture of Bahr el-Ghazal was founded. On December 10, 1934, the elevation to a Vicariate Apostolic took place; on December 1, 1950, the name was changed to the Apostolic Vicariate of Gulu. On March 25, 1953, Pope Pius XII. the diocese of Gulu formed; the first bishop was Antonio Vignato MCCJ. This was followed by the suffragan dioceses Arua (1958), Lira (1965) and Nebbi (1968). Pope John Paul II elevated the diocese to today's Archdiocese of Gulu on January 2, 1999. The first archbishop was Martin Luluga .
