content
On 224 pages with a total of 765 drawings, the authors present 57 portraits of important contemporaries of Berlin public life in the 1920s. These biographical portraits are embedded in historical and cultural facts from the Weimar period . The book also includes 5 different city maps, 65 scenes, 8 infographics, 403 vignettes, 51 film posters and 181 hand-lettered lettering (decorative initials, own cursive, small caps, minuscule numbers etc. edited, optimized, designed and drawn by the artist). Robert Nippoldt's illustrations show artists such as George Grosz , Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau , Lotte Reiniger and Bertolt Brecht as well as journalists and writers such as Egon Erwin Kisch , Christopher Isherwood, Harry Graf Kessler and Kurt Tucholsky , public figures such as Albert Einstein , Friedrich Ebert and Walther Rathenau or Rudolf Ullstein as well as historically significant places (e.g. the Hotel Adlon , the Lunapark or the Haus Vaterland ), film posters and infographics. The social aspects are also illuminated, including portraits of Anita Berber , Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld , the Sass brothers and Commissioner Ernst Gennat . The variety, film and theater culture is explained using protagonists such as Josephine Baker , Friedrich Hollaender , Kurt Weill , Claire Waldoff , Marlene Dietrich and Max Reinhardt . The enclosed CD was put together in consultation with swing DJ Stephan Wuthe and contains 26 original recordings from the 1920s.
Screen prints with motifs from the Berlin Book have been exhibited several times. The edition now comprises 74 prints. The show “ A mysterious shimmer ” goes well with the book . The stage program with live drawings and live music was developed by Robert Nippoldt and the trio megalomania . The show has already been performed more than 60 times, including in the Pantheon Theater in Bonn , in the Neukölln home port in Berlin , in the historic town hall in Wuppertal and on the AIDA cruise ships .
