Ezra Karakaya

Esra Karakaya (* 1991 in Berlin ) is a German presenter , journalist and web video producer .

education

Karakaya passed her A- levels at the Lessing-Gymnasium in Berlin-Wedding . She studied music and media studies at the Humboldt University in Berlin and graduated with a bachelor's degree . A subsequently begun Master - studies in Media Studies broke it off. In 2016 and 2017 she was part of the Transatlantic Exchange Program for Young Minorities at Johns Hopkins University and in 2017 she was a John Lewis Fellow of the non-governmental organization Humanity in Action .

Between 2017 and 2018 she developed the online talk show Black Rock Talk , named after the literal translation of her surname , whose concept, inspired by the US YouTube channel The Grapevine , was produced and continued as Karakaya Talk by Funk from 2019 . Awards

In 2020, Karakaya received the Axel Springer Prize for young journalists, endowed with 5,000 euros, in the “Entertainment and Humor” category. Together with the production team Karakaya Talk , Karakaya was also the 2020 winner of the Grimme Online Award in the culture and entertainment category. The reason given was: “[...] is more than a classic talk show. The team behind the format skillfully identifies what moves the people in their community and uses them to formulate suitable topics and questions. Community work is very important here, because the project wants to make voices audible that would otherwise not be heard. ” As part of the satirical and comedic YouTube format Datteltäter , Karakaya was nominated for the CIVIS Media Prize 2020, which was awarded (as of June 2020 ) is exposed to corona.
