Estanislau Amadeu Kreutz

Estanislau Amadeu Kreutz (born July 1, 1928 in Santo Cristo ; † July 6, 2014 in Santo Ângelo ) was the Roman Catholic bishop of Santo Ângelo .

Life

Estanislau Amadeu Kreutz, one of 13 children from the marriage of the German-Brazilian Jorge Kreutz and Catharina Gertrudes Puhl Kreutz, studied philosophy and theology in São Leopoldo ( RS ). He received on 28 November 1954 in the Cathedral of Santo Ângelo by Bishop João Cláudio Colling the priesthood . He was first parish vicar in Tucunduva and from 1956 to 1959 pastor of Campina and various mission stations. From 1960 to 1963 he was rector of the diocesan seminary of Cerro Largo. He then studied religious sociology in Rome from 1963 to 1967 and studied French at the Institut Catholique de Paris as well as a doctorate in systematic theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome.

From 1968 to 1969 he was professor of theology at the Major Seminary of Maior de Viamão (RS); From 1970 to 1971 he was rector and professor at the Padre Adolfo Gallas seminary in Santo Cristo (RS). In 1972 he became Aloísio Lorscheider's personal secretary .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 10, 1972 auxiliary bishop in Santo Ângelo and titular bishop of Maronana . The Bishop of Santo Ângelo Aloísio Lorscheider OFM donated him episcopal ordination on September 17th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were João Cláudio Colling , Bishop of Passo Fundo , and Augusto Petró , Bishop of Uruguaiana . His episcopal motto was “Spe gaudentes, glad in hope” ( Rom 12.12  EU ).

On December 21, 1973 he was appointed Bishop of Santo Ângelo. He founded over 400 new Catholic parishes and 15 parish associations. Dom Estanislau consecrated 154 priests and religious. He worked closely with Adveniat . Kreutz was vice president, later president of the regional bishops' conference of the South-3 region (Rio Grande do Sul) and bishop for the vocations and youth in the South-3 region.

On June 15, 2004, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

Estanislau Amadeu Kreutz was considered one of the experts on the Jesuit reductions of the Guaraní . He has published several works on this in Portuguese.
