Estrada de Palha (German: Street made of hay) is a Portuguese - Finnish feature film of the western genre from 2012 .

Alberto has been living in the far north for many years when he learned of his brother's tragic death through a letter from his Portuguese homeland. He then returns to avenge him. He comes into increasing conflict with corrupt law enforcement officers and gangsters. Alberto tries now to defend himself against state and criminal arbitrariness, and to keep the remaining family together.

Director and producer Areias also wrote the script for his film himself, based on Henry David Thoreau's essay " On the Duty to Disobey the State " .
It was filmed in the Alentejo , in the Serra da Estrela and in Lapland . The Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki , who moved to Portugal with his wife in 1989, has a guest appearance as the bearer of the all-important letter to Alberto.

After being at the film festival in 2011. Caminhos do Cinema Português ran, the film was presented in a series of movie theaters and concert halls in Portugal, as a film-concert live from the film musicians Rita Redshoes and The Legendary Tigerman accompanied, as in Guimarães as part of the European Capital of Culture 2012 and in the renowned Teatro São Luiz in Lisbon , u. a.
The film also screened at a number of international film festivals where it won various awards, including the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival and the Caminhos do Cinema Português in Coimbra .
The film was released on DVD in 2012 by ZON Audiovisuais, a subsidiary of ZON Multimédia . The original soundtrack was also released on CD in 2012, in a joint edition by Metropolitana and Fnac .
