Life

Since his school days he played theater, alongside his activity as a competitive swimmer . The family moved frequently because of his job, and he attended secondary school in Setúbal . He enrolled at the National Conservatory ( Conservatório Nacional , today Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema ) and was accepted into the ensemble of the Teatro Animação de Setúbal (TAS) in his first year . In 1982 he was on stage for the first time as a professional actor, in Doces do Diabo (Eng: The Devil's Sweets) by Jorge de Sena , staged by Alexandre de Sousa at the Teatro de Bolso in Setúbal. He then broke off his studies and became a professional actor. For a few years he played continuously at the TAS until Carlos César , the director of the TAS, Joseph Kesselring staged Arsénico e Rendas Velhas (English: arsenic and lace cap ) at the Teatro ABC in Lisbon in 1984 , and gave Melo a role. In the same year Melo first gained national fame for his role as Caniço in the telenovela Chuva na Areia (English: rain on the sand). This gave Melo the leading role in O Barão (Eng .: The Baron) in 2011 , for which he was awarded the Globo de Ouro 2012 for best leading actor.

Melo became well known in Portugal, especially through his television appearances. As a result, he repeatedly attracted the attention of the gossip press , for example when he separated from his long-time girlfriend and wife, the producer Isabel Nogueira, in February 2013, who accused him of drug addiction and violence. After a first separation in 2006, they married in 2010. Melo died of liver cancer in Lisbon in June 2015 .
