Eugen Beyer

Eugen Beyer (born February 18, 1882 in Pohrlitz ( Moravia ), † July 25, 1940 in Salzburg ) was an Austrian Lieutenant Field Marshal and German infantry general during the Second World War .

Life

Eugen Beyer joined the Austro-Hungarian army on August 18, 1902 , and became a cadet in the 31st Infantry Regiment . He completed an officer training and was transferred to the General Staff in 1910 . During the First World War he was among other things General Staff Officer of the 17th Infantry Division. After the war he was accepted into the armed forces and was given command of the 6th Division in Innsbruck .

When connecting Austria on 15 March 1938 he was in the German Wehrmacht adopted. On April 1, he was given command of the XVIII. Army Corps , which he held until his death. When he was appointed to the command, he was also the commander of military district XVIII until the mobilization in the summer of 1939 . Beyer, who was already suffering from cancer, died on July 25, 1940 in Salzburg and was buried in Hietzing .
