Eugen Fassbender (born May 28, 1854 in Penzing , today Vienna , † April 3, 1923 in Vienna) was an Austrian architect and urban planner .

Life

Fassbender studied from 1874 to 1880, interrupted by military service, at the Technical University of Vienna with Karl König and Heinrich von Ferstel . He then attended the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1880 to 1883 with Friedrich von Schmidt .

As an architect, he set up numerous telephone exchanges in Vienna. But he concentrated more on urban planning and the publication of specialist publications. In 1893 he won 2nd prize in the competition for a Vienna general regulatory plan. Far-sighted was his proposal in 1898 to create a people's ring, which should form an air reservoir around the city. In 1905 this idea was realized in a modified form with the establishment of the Vienna Green Belt . 1905–1908 he created a general regulation plan for Villach .

Fassbender had been a building officer since 1904, as well as an expert on urban planning and garden architecture. From 1891 he was a member of the Austrian Association of Engineers and Architects, from 1893 the Cooperative of Visual Artists Vienna, from 1908 the Central Association of Architects in Austria and from 1913 the Viennese Bauhütte.

In 1981 Fassbendergasse in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him.
