Eugenio Ravignani
Eugenio Ravignani (born December 30, 1932 in Pula , Istria (now in Croatia ), † May 7, 2020 in Opicina , Italy ) was an Italian Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Trieste .
Life
Eugenio Ravignani completed a theological training with other Trieste seminarians at the seminary of Vittorio Veneto and at the seminary in Trieste. On July 3, 1955, he was ordained a priest in the Cathedral of Trieste by Bishop Antonio Santin and was incardinated in the clergy of the Diocese of Trieste and Capodistria . In 1961 he completed a doctorate in theology at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome. He held various positions in the diocese. In 1967 he took over the leadership of the ecumenical dialogue with the leaders of the Christian, Orthodox and Protestant churches in the city of Trieste, extended it to the Jewish community and held this position until 1978. In 1968 he was appointed rector and prefect of studies in the diocesan seminary and was employed here until 1983. From 1978 to 1981 he led the diocesan week “Vita Nuova”.
Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Vittorio Veneto on March 7, 1983 . He received his episcopal ordination in the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta on April 24th of the same year by the Bishop of Trieste, Lorenzo Bellomi ; Co- consecrators were Gioacchino Muccin , Bishop of Belluno e Feltre , and Antonio Vitale Bommarco OFMConv , Archbishop of Gorizia . His episcopal motto was "Donec dies elucescat" (1 Pt 1.19). On January 4, 1997, he was appointed Bishop of Trieste by John Paul II. He was vice-president of the Bishops 'Conference of Triveneto (200–2009) and a member of the Bishops' Commission for Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue and a member of the Bishops 'Commission for Catholic Education, Schools and Universities of the Italian Bishops' Conference CEI. He was a member of the Episcopal Commission of the Theological Faculty of Triveneto.
On July 4, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
Eugenio Ravignani was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . He was Grand Officer of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and from 1997 to 2009 was Prior of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Section of the Papal Laity Order.
